The IEEE Open Journal of Engineering in Medicine and Biology (OJEMB), a Q1 international scientific journal, has announced a Special Issue entitled “Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare: A New Paradigm for Trustworthy and Knowledge-Integrated Medical AI.”
The Special Issue focuses on the emerging role of Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, promoting innovative approaches that combine the learning capabilities of neural models with symbolic reasoning, structured medical knowledge, and explainable decision-making.
This initiative aims to advance the development of trustworthy, interpretable, and knowledge-integrated AI systems capable of addressing complex challenges in medical diagnosis, clinical decision support, personalized medicine, and healthcare applications.
The Special Issue is closely aligned with the research themes of the 1st Symposium on Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare (NeSy4H 2026), hosted by the Department of Information Science and Technology at Pegaso University in Naples on September 24–25, 2026.
It represents a further opportunity to strengthen international scientific collaboration and encourage the dissemination of innovative research at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, biomedical engineering, and healthcare.
Researchers and practitioners are invited to explore the Special Issue and consider submitting original contributions addressing the integration of neural and symbolic approaches in medical AI.
