Sensors to provide personalised healthcare for the elderly

Ageing is a central challenge for EU societies as the number of elderlies is on the rise. Ageing has significant social and financial impacts due to higher incidence of health disturbances such as hearing loss, cardiovascular diseases, mental and balance disorders. The trend in elderly care is to search for solutions for the prevention and effective treatment of age-related ailments. The EU-funded SMART BEAR project will develop a platform based on a variety of sensors and mobile instruments that will permanently collect data on their daily life and analyse these to provide personalised interventions. The SMART BEAR solution will be tested in large-scale pilots involving 5 000 elderly people living at home in France, Greece, Italy, Romania and Spain.

Project description:

The project aims to analyze the experience of ASL Caserta, which was the first in the Campania Region to undertake a digital transformation process for the management of chronic patients. The aim is to highlight the specificities of the chronic care system, based on an advanced information system capable of integrating the patient's path and clinical data, optimizing the clinical-organizational management of chronic diseases, and increasing efficiency in the use of healthcare resources.

Project description:

The project aims to integrate open source large language models (LLMs) with advanced information retrieval (RAG) techniques and multimodal capabilities in order to create a highly personalized learning platform. The goal is to support the learning process through an artificial intelligence that: i) provides accurate and contextualized answers; ii) retrieves relevant multimedia material; iii) adapts to the individual needs of learners and educators.

Project description:

The project aims at the creation of a platform for socialization and virtual cooperation in the Metaverse, in order to promote moments of meeting and confrontation between the students of the University and innovative didactic and extra-didactic experiences. The basic idea is to complement training delivered at a distance through the implementation of a prototype of the “Pegaso Virtual Campus,” combining Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Extended Reality (xR) techniques.

Project description:

Current Artificial Intelligence (AI) excels in specific tasks but has limitations in generalization, in explainability and reasoning. Symbolic AI, while offering transparency, is less robust in dynamic environments. This project studies neurosymbolic AI as an integration of learning and representation logic, with the goal of establishing guidelines for the development of interpretable and adaptable intelligent systems.
